Before my summer classes start, I wanted to get some fresh air and visit one of San Diego’s highlights- Balboa Park. This park has a variety of museums, gardens, beautiful architecture, and restaurants. Unfortunately, most of the museums and restaurants are closed due to quarantine. However, Balboa Park is still open if you want to just walk around and take in the scenery. I’ve been to Balboa Park multiple times before, but this was the only time where I could take pictures without people in the background. Usually, this place is PACKED! In this post, I’m just going to give you some cheap and fun ideas of things to do at Balboa Park San Diego, quarantine edition of course!

I want to preface that it is important that you wear your mask wherever you go. Although things are starting to open up, the number of COVID-19 cases are still rising. Even though I’m not wearing a mask in these pictures, just know that I only took it off for the pictures when no one was around me. Let’s not forget to practice social distancing!

Here are some things to do at Balboa Park San Diego (Quarantine Edition)!

1. Stroll Around the Alcazar Garden

This is actually the first time that I’ve visited the Alcazar Garden! I’m in love with the rows of pathways surrounded by plants and the Moroccan Styled fountain. You also get a good view of the California Tower!

2. Visit the Japanese Friendship Garden

I actually didn’t go inside the Japanese Friendship Garden, but it is actually open for the public. There is an admission fee! I’m a broke college kid, so I managed to get this picture from the outside haha! It does look very pretty. 🙂

3. Watch the Koi Fish and Ducks at the Botanical Garden Lily Pond

The Botanical Garden is not open, but you can visit the Lily Pond right in front of it and sit down and watch the koi fish and ducks!

3. Visit The Old Globe

The Old Globe is a Tony Award winning theater modeled after Shakespeare’s Old Globe in London. Although you can’t go inside, the architecture is a great sight to look at!

4. Take Pictures of the California Tower

The California Tower was probably my favorite sight at Balboa Park. I love how intricately designed the dome and bell tower are. It’s a great picture taking spot!
