If you’re a student, you might be wondering, “Is an iPad good for studying in college?”. After using an iPad in college for over a year now, I highly recommend it for studying! It’s made note-taking and organizing so much easier for the following reasons:
- All of my notes for every class are in one place. I don’t need to carry a lot of books around school.
- Navigating between my notes and the apps that I use for studying is also way faster with an iPad!
- It’s easy to transport my files between my iPad and Macbook
Personally, I believe that using an iPad will make studying more efficient and help you to become a better student. If you need more convincing on purchasing an iPad or if you want the inside scoop about the best iPad apps for college, I made a What’s on My iPad (Student Edition) video.
Watch the video to discover the 10 MUST HAVE iPad apps for college that every student should have.

In the video, I’m using the 6th Generation iPad (9.7 inches with 32 GB), which is Apple’s 2018 model and a much cheaper option than the iPad Pro. Honestly, I’m not a tech geek so I can’t give you technical details on the differences between normal iPads and iPad Pros. Based on an article by Tom’s Guide, the 2019 normal iPads are:
- Cheaper ($379 normal iPad vs $999 2020 iPad Pro)
- Smaller screen
- Longer battery life
- Less storage options
- Camera features are not as up to date
- Only compatible with 1st generation Apple Pencil
If you will be using an iPad primarily for studying, the most affordable option and “bang for your buck” would be the normal 2019 iPad. As long as you’re able to write on the iPad and have enough storage, you are good!
In the video, I also use an Apple Pencil, which pairs with the iPad via bluetooth and functions like a stylus. It is an amazing tool for taking notes because it has the feel of a normal writing utensil, unlike other styluses out there. I recommend buying the Apple Pencil over other brands because it was designed for the iPad. One cool feature about it is that when you add pressure while writing with the Apple Pencil, the ink will thicken on your screen! It also reproduces your handwriting very well, as demonstrated by the video! You don’t want to cheap out on this. Since I don’t have the iPad Pro, I use the 1st generation of the Apple Pencil. I’ve never used the 2nd generation version, but I can tell you that the 1st generation works wonders.
